Betty Jean has galley inventory for eight, a picnic cooler (holds right at 30# of ice cubes if you make 3-4 drinks before closing lid), and towels and bedding for your crew. A Magna gas grill is mounted in the cockpit. Make sure you remember to purchase a gas cartridge when you shop for provisions, and please store your gas cartridges in the propane locker.
For those of you who like to plan or want to know how things work, this page lists ideas and manuals on how to better use the gadgets and gizmo's on board Betty Jean. Help us make this page more useful to future visitors. Send your thoughts and ideas to Info@BoatBettyJean.com.
We suggest you download the manuals by right-clicking on the link, select save target as, and save to your laptop's hard drive in your VACATION folder. While the Abacos have internet, odds are you will not have internet when you want to refer to a manual.
- The Saloon:
- Nav Station:
- Hand Held VHF
- The hand held VHF allows folks in the main cabin to hear the Cruisers' Net (Channel 68) and it also comes in handy for use as an intercom between the main deck and the fly bridge. Pick something other than 16 to use as your "intercom" channel.
- You can set the memory of both lower and upper VHF's to scan 16, Cruisers' Net (68), your Intercom channel.
- Take the hand held onto shore so you can communicate with those who stay on board Betty Jean, taxis, and stores.
- Warning: Please do NOT leave the charger connected for long periods of time. Doing so will burn out the battery.
- Storage: When not is use, please store the hand held VHF and the charger in the nav station.
- To download a copy of the operating manual right click HERE.
- Navigation Tools:
- Dividers, hand bearing compass, etc are in the nav table along with a dive flag, flashlight, and other assorted bits and pieces. If you need more details, contact Cruise Abaco.
- Entertainment:
- TV/DVD:
- A 15" flat screen TV/DVD is mounted above the galley sink and it faces the settee.
- It works pretty much like any TV. You grab the remote and randomly push buttons until the DVD movie is displayed on the screen.
- The best view is from the settee, and if you lower the table to the bed position, movies will put you (or your kids) right to sleep.
- Toshiba's web site, as of today, does not have a manual for Betty Jean's TV. However, if you would like to download the manual for the 14" model, which appears to be quite similar, right click HERE. Really now! Do you really need this manual!
- Stereo:
- Make sure you bring the USB cable for your IPod or other player. Our receiver has a USB port on the face of the panel.
- You can also bring original CD's or your own recordings. Do NOT mix different formats (such as MP3 or WMA) on the same CD.
- The FADE function is the saloon vs. fly bridge control.
- If music is important to you, study the manual in advance. To download a copy of the operating manual right click HERE.
- On Board as of January 25, 2008:
- You are welcome to use our games and movies that are on board Betty Jean. While we do NOT warrant these items are on-board for your use (isn't that a nice way to say something was pilfered?), you are welcome to use them. Please treat them well and keep them dry. If something is missing or you leave something behind for others, send an email to Info@BoatBettyJean.com, and we will update the list.

Fountaine-Pajot, Highland 35 Manuals:
-
- These manuals are amazingly incomplete but there are some decent photos of heads and seacocks. To download Betty Jean's manuals, right click the following and save to your drive.
- User Guide:
- If you are not familiar with marine toilets and holding tanks, this is a useful guide.
- Speaking of holding tanks . . . the unwritten law of the Abacos is "holding tanks may be emptied if you are about 200 yards or more from shore". The point is . . . keep the holding tanks empty and reduce odors in the boat.
- We have placed a holding tank sticker above the wheel to remind us to empty our tanks. We usually forget about them until after we have anchored or docked at a marina and it's too late to dump.
